Paper Sculptures - Making Of
This was the first project I worked on at RWCMD. Myself and a small team of other designers were tasked with creatin a large scale sculpture to celebrate the college's music department. The sculptures were to be made in two weeks, entirely out of paper and packing tape, with a rudimentary scaffolding armature.
As well as being an exercise in collaborative working; the making techniques I learnt turned out to be very useful and were carried into later projects. it was a lesson in the potential of simple, inexpensive materials.
Amongst other things, I was tasked with sculpting the head. this was particularly challenging but I learnt how to translate a drawing into a 3D shape by drawing the front and side views on cardboard and using this a reference to build out from. this is a technique i have used many times since.
